Privacy policy
Effective October 4, 2026.
The short version: Kite runs on your computer. Your email, calendar, and sign-in stay there. Kite has no servers, and the developer never receives your data.
Who we are
Kite is a desktop email and calendar app made by Bryan Lee. Contact: bryan.lee08@gmail.com.
What Kite accesses
When you sign in with Google, you choose to let Kite:
- Gmail: read your email so Kite can show, sort, and search it; mark email read or unread, archive, star, label, snooze, and move email to the trash when you ask; and send email or save drafts only when you ask.
- Google Calendar: read your list of calendars and their events; and create, change, move, or delete events when you ask.
- Google Tasks: read your task lists and tasks so due tasks show on your calendar. Kite does not change your tasks.
Where your data is stored
Kite keeps everything on your own computer, in a hidden folder named .kite in your home folder. That folder holds your Google sign-in tokens, a copy of recent email, your label names, snoozes, to-dos, and settings. The files can only be read by your user account on that computer. Kite's built-in server only accepts requests from Kite on the same computer.
Who your data is shared with
- Google. Kite talks directly to Google's servers to read and change your email, calendar, and tasks, as described above.
- Anthropic, only if you turn it on. AI in Kite is off until you turn it on in Accounts. When it is on, Kite sends the text of your emails to Anthropic's Claude, through your own Claude Code plan or your own Anthropic API key, to write summaries, find what needs you, and help draft replies. Separately, if you connect Claude Code to Kite, Claude Code can read your email and calendar when you ask it to. In every case your own agreement with Anthropic covers that data.
- No one else. Kite has no ads, does not sell or rent your data, and has no analytics or tracking.
Google API data
Kite's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Kite does not use your Google data for advertising, and does not use it to develop, improve, or train generalized AI or machine learning models.
Deleting your data
- In Kite, open Accounts and click Disconnect. Kite revokes its access to that Google account and deletes that account's saved email and sign-in from your computer.
- You can also remove Kite's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
- To remove everything, quit Kite and delete the
.kitefolder in your home folder.
Children
Kite is not meant for children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
